LET’S ALWAYS BE CAUTIOUS

By ELMINA FABON FALLAR

PANIC and anxiety because of the COVID-19 constrained me to search the answer to what is happening in the world. The article written by former Senator Eddie Elarde published in the Philippines Star on August 18, 2007 contained dreadful statement that came from the revelatory and controversial book by Maurice Cotterell and Adrian Gilbert. The Mayan Prophecies which, after painstaking efforts by the authors to decode the complex Mayan astrological prophecies, reveal horrifying cataclysmic events of cosmic proportion. The Mayan prophecies inscribed on the ruins of pyramids and temples lost in the middle of the dense rainforests of Central America, foremost of these the Meso American sun stone known as the Aztec Calendar. The ancient Maya account tells that the world will suffer devastating floods, volcanic eruptions, severe drought (heat wave), earthquakes never before experienced, wars, famine, pestilence, religious violence, chaos in society and among family members, etc.

The uncanny Mayan prophecies are parallel to Rev. 14, 14-19 and Luke 21, 5-11. Luke 21, 5-11 which specifically state: “Some of the disciples were talking about the Temple, how beautiful it looked with its fine stones and the gifts offered to God. Jesus said, “All this you see - the time will come when not a single stone here will be left in its place; every one will be thrown down.”

“Teacher,” they asked, “When will this be? And what will happen in order to show that the time has come for it to take place?” Jesus said, “Watch out, don’t be fooled. Many men, claiming to speak for me, will come and say, ‘I am he!’ and ‘The time has come!” But don’t follow them. Don’t be afraid when you hear of wars and revolutions; such things must happen first, but they do not mean that the end is near.”

He went on to say, “Countries will fight each other; kingdoms will attack one another.” There will be terrible earthquakes, famines and plagues everywhere; there will be strange and terrifying things coming from the sky.” Are these things happening because of Man’s folly, bringing about erratic weather patterns due to global warming as the environmentalists would readily argue? Are we in God’s wrath due to our sinful ways? Have we violated God’s Commandments? Nobody can tell!

Science and religion -- which do we believe? We only know one thing for sure. When it comes, there is no escape. Don’t say we were not warned! Pray!
