Puerto Galera reopens tourism activities in August
PUERTO GALERA, Oriental Mindoro, Aug. 19 (PIA) -- The primary tourism destination of the province, Puerto Galera, has reopened its doors to all tourists coming from outside of Oriental Mindoro starting August 15 after months of closure due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The reopening will be subject to certain conditions and regulations according to the Provincial Tourism Office.
Such conditions as stated in Executive Order No. 35 series of 2020 issued by Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan is limited to incoming individuals/tourists who must first acquire their negative RT-PCR results valid within 48 hours upon release of the result.
It is further stated in the EO that entrants must have pre-booking through accommodation establishments by means of online registration using mobile app. Only one entry point as specified in the EO shall be used in order to protect and monitor entry of tourists in the town.
Only a few accommodation establishments are accredited by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the local government unit and these accredited establishments can accept pre-booking of tourists.
Meanwhile, the limited reopening of tourism activities in this town was requested by the municipal government of Puerto Galera to the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro, in order to invigorate economic activities of people in the town as tourism is the primary source of income in the locality.
However, strict compliance on the following will be observed: First, no entry unless they can present negative RT-PCR Result (not rapid test); Second, no walk-in individuals will be allowed to enter Puerto Galera, which means that only those who are registered online in the authorized establishments are allowed to enter; and Last, only one port of entry is used in order to check incoming tourists who have the two requirements mentioned.
Based on the report of Oriental Mindoro Tourism and Culture, only 18 accommodation establishments in Puerto Galera are accredited by DOT and the local government unit, which are based n their capability to accept visitors/tourists while staying in Puerto Galera. However, these establishments must practice strict implementation of health protocols.
Gov. Humerlito A. Dolor reminded the establishments that "one violation (in health protcols) is tantamount to closure of tourism activities in the town". (Luis T. Cueto /PIA-OrMin)
